CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Our goal is to contribute to global prosperity and the well-being of people which will lead to continuing growth and bring the world closer to achieving Kyosei

Truly global companies must foster good relations, not only with their customers but also in communities in which they operate,
nations and the environment.  They must bear the responsibility for the impact of their activities in society.
Canon’s goal is to contribute to global prosperity and the well being of mankind.

CANON ADVOCACY TEAM

In 2010, the Canon Advocacy Team (Canon A Team) was formed out of several volunteer photographers who wanted to create a Photography With A Difference project.  After more than a year, the group of volunteers has grown tenfold and many more continue to express interest.  All that Canon requires is the use of any Canon camera, whether a point-and-shoot or DSLR camera, along with a commitment of time and effort to capture moments in social, cultural and environmental activities.  The creation of the Canon A Team was intended to provide Canon photographers with a means to give back to society.  It allows Canon to nurture and support its customers as they contribute their time and skills and live in the Kyosei spirit.

In 2011, The largest Photography Difference Project to date was held at the Angeles City Flying Club in Pampanga with over 200 participants. The event supported seven beneficiary organizations namely Parent Advocates for Visually Impaired Children, Kythe Foundation, Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders, Autism Society of the Philippines, Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Parents Council for the Welfare of Hearing Impaired Children Inc., and the Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Society of the Philippines. Families from these organizations joined together with the support of several partners to allow children with disabilities to experience flying for the first time in their lives.  The Canon A team photographers were tasked to not just capture the emotion and happiness that can be treasured for years to come, but to also experience for themselves how one day can create so much delight for these children.

Later on in the year, the Canon Advocacy Team was activated again for Rare Moments a project for the benefit of the Philippine Society for Orphan Disorders. It is a group who helps to support families with children afflicted with Rhett Syndrome, Osteogenesis, Hunter Syndrome and Muscle Dystrophy. The project aims to help raise awareness and hopefully get more people involved in their commitment to aid those with rare disorders.

In the October 2011, children from Parent Advocates for Visually Impaired Children (PAVIC) and Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines (DSAPI) were treated to a day of fun and activity at Tagaytay Highlands in the event entitled Let’s Get High. Children experienced riding horses for the first time and playing games to bond with their own as well as other families.

With the motto: Life. Camera. Action, the Canon Advocacy Team will continuously be supported by Canon Marketing (Phils.), Inc. for their altruistic passions.  When you combine their skills in imaging, Canon’s superior cameras that encapsulate these moments and imprint these shots with excellent Canon photo prints – Persons With Disabilities will be reminded that they can achieve even more in their lives.

PRINT FOR SMILES

The Print For Smiles Project allows photographers to contribute to a worthy case.  Photographers purchase discounted large format prints from Canon and this serves as their donation to Operation Smile.  The project generated more than 200 percent more than the target for the year 2010.

In Canon Marketing (Philippines) Inc. (CMP) and Canon Information Technology Philippines, Inc. (CI-Tech) have donated P152,000 to Operation Smile Philippines. Operation Smile said the amount will subsidize the cost of at least 10 surgical operations. Operation Smile is an international group which helps children born with cleft lips and palates by providing assistance for reconstructive surgery.

“Canon is looking forward to more projects to benefit Operation Smile Philippines,” said CMP CEO Alan Chng. “I believe that smiles are integral to life, especially with our commitment to delighting our customers.” The donation was generated through three separate activities: The Print for Smiles Program, the Canon Tiendesitas Sale, and an internal donation from CI-Tech.

“What Canon did was something very engaging because they got their customers to help the cause,” said Operation Smile president and executive director Bobby Manzano. “The beautiful thing was that Canon was able to raise funds. At the same time, they were able to raise awareness of Operation Smile,” he said.
Canon intends to continue the Print For Smiles Program in the year 2011 as customers are still requesting for this activity. More Photographers and families want to have excellent quality prints that also contribute to a greater purpose.
Since 2007 when Canon sponsored ten (10) operations, the company has continued to support the efforts of Operation Smile and their medical missions.

CANON PROJECT REBUILD

Canon Marketing Philippines created this disaster relief project to respond to crisis and calamities. The project aims to generate support and create awareness from partners, customers and employees. It was initiated in the onslaught of Typhoon Ondoy back in 2009.
Urgent needs during a calamity include basic necessities and monetary donations. Canon addresses each issue and concern as unique,  collecting relevant information and sharing this with the employees. Employees are able to provide both monetary and in kind donations.   Various sub-projects are implemented to address each distinctive problem or issue.

CPR-Typhoon Ondoy deployed manpower services, waived service feeds and cut part costs for clients hit by severe flooding.  Many corporate customers such as Unilever were badly affected and they were able to resume operations quickly with the help of the support we provided to their Canon copier machines. As many as eighteen (18) machines were salvaged from Unilever’s two sites in Paco, Manila and Manggahan, Pasig City.

“They have been very fast in responding to Unilever’s requent when we underwent disaster recovery after Typhoon Ondoy,” said Unilever IT country head Farida Ferraris-Limpoco, “They have been a true partner of Unliever and without question, it was one of the most seamless transitions of assets we have ever experienced..”

Monetary donations are coursed through the Philippine National Red Cross to ensure proper distribution and allocation for relief areas.  In kind donations are brought to relief centers through volunteer Canon employees and other partners who are well equipped in the distribution and organization of such IMG_6230activities.
Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. and Canon Information Technologies, Inc. continues to work together to provide more support for various causes

IMG_6890.jpgIn the spirit of Kyosei to work together to achieve more good, employees are motivated to contribute to the relief efforts by collecting ang gathering donations, relief goods and also assisting in the distribution.
CMP Employee Donations are collected after each disaster and turned over to the Philippine National Red Cross along with corporate donations.
Employee volunteers trekked to affected areas in the aftermath of Typhoon Pedring and Quiel in 2011.

BANTAY BATA

Bantay Bata 163 is a non-profit organization of ABS-CBN dedicated to the welfare of the abused, neglected and abandoned
children in the Philippines.

Its thrust is to rescue these children with healing, rehabilitation and development to help them rebuild their lives.

In 2007, Canon donated ten Powershot digital cameras and one Selphy printer for the development of ten children who were
specially chosen to participate

in photography classes.  The photographs taken by the children were featured in a 2008 calendar that is distributed to partners
of the foundation nationwide.

In 2008, Canon donated an imageRunner 1210 digital copier for their Children’s Village in Bulacan to alleviate their need to travel
to the next town for copying services.

BLACK PENCIL PROJECT

Canon continues to support advocacies such as the Black Pencil Project. Black Pencil Project is a collective initiative to provide
pencils (and other light school materials) to public elementary schools in remote communities (accessible by foot) across the country
through resources mobilization. It aims to encourage localized participation, individual commitment of goodwill, in support to government

EMPLOYEE VOLUNTEERISM

Canon employees were tasked to help Gawad Kalinga finish 10 homes located in Mandaluyong City in 2007, part of the 10th year anniversary of Canon in the Philippines.

Gawad Kalinga (GK) translated in English means to “to give care”, and it is an alternative solution to the blatant problem of poverty not just in the Philippines but in the world. GK’s vision for the Philippines is a slum-free, squatter-free nation through a simple strategy of providing land for the landless, homes for the homeless, food for the hungry and as a result providing dignity and peace for every Filipino.

Canon employees visit different institutions annually as part of their volunteerism efforts.

In 2011, Canon employees along with volunteers from the Makati Camera Club spent a day at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Home for the Elderly in Manila. Activities included a portrait session, mass and lunch treat for all beneficiaries.

Golden Acres is an institution that cares for senior citizens aged 60 and above who are abandoned, neglected or in dire need. Canon provided the senior citizens with food, other basic necessities and spent invaluable quality time to partake in their words of wisdom.

Nayon Ng Kabataan is a residential institution for abused, orphaned, abandoned, neglected and exploited children between the ages of 7 to 17 years old in Mandaluyong City.  They also take in children with behaviorial problems whose needs are not met by their parents or guardians.  The visit entails a program of activities that would support the well being and provide delight to these children.

In a country like the Philippines, support from the private sector is very much needed for social development.  CMP has continued
its dedication to more CSR activities that can alleviate these demoralizing conditions and issues in the country.  Our efforts not
just provide funding or sponsorship of such projects but also encourages employee volunteerism for more genuine involvement
and empathy for these causes.
